Project Summary / Description:
Pixies is a reality that fixes the Problem of Littering. It tries to make our cities increasingly efficient, green, autonomous and "self-sustaining . Pixies intends to achieve this by giving life to the small elements cities are made of and enable them to take action. It is an attempt to make urban spaces heal the fragile environment by providing benches that can clean the surrounding space. The goal is to reduce GHG emissions in urban contexts and to protect wildlife. It offers: Autonomous cleaning of urban contexts combining a smart bench and mobile robots; AI to recycle plastic; Waste Data Collection.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Pixies wants to be accessible to everyone. The concept behind that is to make the space of the future with small intervention that are effective but do not require the entire reshaping of the infrastructure. In this way we can improve life conditions in urban spaces with micro interventions with a far-reaching impact. Indeed, our solution is ready to be implemented everywhere in the world and its price target is meant to guarantee affordability for every type of community on the globe. Pixies price is indeed always below the cost of labor of every country. Therefore, we can assure that even under-represented communities, can benefit from our project since they can access to effective technologies more easily that they would do if they had to deploy different kind of solution that entail huge logistic. A high level of flexibility in terms of technological replicability assures the goals be accomplished. Pixies harnesses indeed hardware that is easily found and employed worldwide. Thus, the price of such HW components is steadily decreasing (the robotics market is surging) and this allows us to curb the price of Pixies‚ devices making them very affordable. Other benefits from an economic point of view are those related to the management of municipal waste which can increase Pixies‚ affordability even more. These advantages regard the collection of data in real time, which allows targeted intervention policies for PAs and a consequent 35% reduction in costs associated with administration management. It guarantees an increase of 80 % of the productivity of the choices made by the public administration for the decorum of the city. Concerning the social impact Pixies should, in every scenario, bring a positive effect on communities with different cultural backgrounds and encourage people to behave better with regard of the planet which hosts them.
