Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
This project provides positive climate impacts for all of humanity. We take our responsibility to the planet seriously and intend to provide these benefits for all people. The project allows those of us in the developed world who have produced the majority of historical emissions to do our share and clean up our mess. The project team dedicates significant time and effort to fostering an equitable environment that attracts, retains and highly values people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We believe that the result reflects the team that created it. Therefore, diversity is a core strength and we make conscious efforts to create and maintain a diverse team. We make use of a variety of techniques to ensure that diverse viewpoints are solicited, considered and engaged. In the use of these techniques, we approach each interaction with respect and a spirit of curiosity and expect the same of everyone that we interact with. Our core practices include: - Structuring meetings to encourage psychological safety and equity in conversational turn taking by actively moderating conversations and encouraging participation - Allowing for multi-modal communication structures including in-person, voice, video, document collaboration, email and instant messaging - Encouraging ownership and autonomy - Working with radical transparency - Creating an environment of care and modeling strong work-life balance from the leadership levels - Actively involving partners into our conversations to hear from more viewpoints whenever possible Our team is committed to employment of equity and diversity in the workplace and it includes researchers and engineers of different nationalities, visible minorities, both men and women. The project team and its partners have had success in creating and retaining a diverse team due to our values and practices that put inclusivity at the core of our work. The members of our team, regardless of their background, consistently report that they feel that their viewpoint is heard and respected and that barriers to their full participation are actively identified and removed.
