Project Summary / Description:
PlasticFri is a CleanTech company from Sweden with the vision to end plastic pollution catastrophe. 200 billion metric tons of CO2 are emitted just because of plastic production. Conventional plastics are made from petroleum and stay in the environment up to 1000 years! By 2050, the oceans could have more plastic than fish. We are on a mission to change that by transforming renewable resources to bio-based products for replacing disposable plastics. PlasticFri has been named the World‚ Most Innovative Sustainability Startup 2020 among 1400 companies Worldwide!

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Dumped and burned rubbish, especially plastic waste, is responsible for the death of one person every 30 seconds in developing countries. The extent of the problems caused by the world‚ addiction to plastic are becoming ever more apparent. Put under a spotlight in Sir David Attenborough‚ BBC TV programme, Blue Planet II, the effects of plastic waste in the oceans are now well known, with animals dying after consuming plastic waste and microplastics found in the stomachs of creatures in the deepest parts of the Pacific Ocean ‚ as well as in the fish that we eat. But more than 80% of the plastic in the world‚ oceans comes from land-based sources. On land, it causes just as many problems as in the seas ‚ problems that are made more acute in a country where waste management is inadequate. While litter in wealthy countries can be a nuisance, plastic waste is still often a case of ‚ out of sight, out of mind‚ . Elsewhere, waste causes serious problems to human health and the environment.
