Project Summary / Description:
Pollima was created to reduce deforestation and capture the carbon in hemp byproduct. Byproduct that would otherwise be discarded and release its stored carbon into the atmosphere as CO2. To prevent this, we form the biomass waste into furniture for the climate-crisis era, catalyzing a carbon negative consumer paradigm shift. We believe in an all-of-the-above approach to CDR. Where other people see waste, we see carbon gold. We see an opportunity for the circular economy. We see the need to not only invest in removal projects - but in storage and utilization solutions as well.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Pollima aims to be a company governed by the principles of environmental justice. We care not just what the table is made out of, but who has a seat at the table, and who that table is impacting. That's why our Colombian American CEO Ardilla Deneys has made it her mission to weave environmental justice into all components of her business model. She cares about employing anti-NIMBY principles, creating ethical supply chains, and building diversity of race, income, geography and perspectives into the company‚ structure: the product is a testament to that. Many, if not most, modern manufacturing is exploitative of vulnerable communities and their environments - creating unsafe working conditions, utilizing toxic adhesive, flame-retardants, PFAS, and formaldehyde (to name a few). The Ethos of Pollima runs counter to that exploitation by ensuring clean, harmless manufacturing processes with no waste or pollution. By using waste byproduct Pollima ensures that no vulnerable communities are having their natural resources unfairly colonized in any part of the manufacturing. By offering the consumers in the United States (a major contributing country to the demand for materials deforestation), Pollima hopes to reduce the climate risk for vulnerable communities plagued by deforestation that does not cause financial benefits to the local communities being affected. The manufacturing model could be located in any developing nation and still stick to these principles because they are endemic to the design: anti-exploitation and anti-NIMBYism is built in.
