Project Summary / Description:
This project provides economic relief to households through our Home Efficiency Self-Audit (HESA) and Home Efficiency Virtual Audit (HEVA) services. This offering empowers citizens to take action to reduce their home energy consumption during COVID without risking infection through our native app or paper version and experienced energy efficiency professionals. HESA/HEVA provides residents with a step-by-step approach for homeowners or renters to assess their energy use and identifies more energy efficient measures to retrofit in their home. The customer then selects and purchases the measures they want to replace which are procured and mailed to them with how-to-install instructions.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The project is designed for underserved communities and low- to mid-income households which includes rural residents, seniors, people without access to reliable internet, electronic devices or are computer literate. The tutorial webinar provided captioning in the recording for hearing impaired individuals. This pilot project served the Island of Kauai and we plan to expand to the rest of the State and beyond. Hawaii is a climate-vulnerable location due the small landmass of the islands which are experiencing sea level rise and is home primarily to people of Asian, Micronesian, and Polynesian descent of whom are served through this program. Kauai Island in particular has survived severe flooding, erosion and damage due to major hurricanes and storms in the last 20 years but has strong communities and organizations. Our pilot with the County of Kauai included a student component whereby students recruited community members to participate. The students canvased communities, providing residents with education and awareness for energy efficiency as well.
