Project Summary / Description:
The purpose of our project Development of a Prototype Building Integrated Hybrid Diurnal Solar Water Heating/Nocturnal Radiative Water Cooling Collector with Thermal Energy Storage System is to provide comfort cooling and heating using ambient energy supplies, namely, solar energy and nocturnal radiation, in the tropics where ambient temperature is excessively exceeding comfort levels. Efforts in solving the problem have centered on use of conventional mechanical vapour compression systems (air conditioners) which release harmful emissions such as chlorofluorocarbons and CO2 by fossil combustion, into the atmosphere.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
It is expected that this project will provide empowerment to the all categories of people within the globe especially in sub-saharan African region where it will proffer solution to the energy need of the people while ameliorating the effect of global warming and climate change on the populace. We envisage that when it is integrated in buildings within this region, comfort cooling will be made assessable to the populace without recourse to the conventional air conditioning system commonly employed for the same purpose. The fact that conventional air conditioning systems, apart from the associated harmful emissions, have remained the exclusive preserve of the rich obviously means that this project will serve to empower the traditionally underrepresented in the leadership of the climate movement.
