re:char was founded to commercialize biochar production technology and educate farmers on carbon negative practices. The company's founder has spent over a decade working on global agricultural carbon sequestration projects. Our first projects were in Western Kenya in collaboration with a local agricultural NGO. We believe that agriculture represents the largest carbon sink worldwide with the potential for gigaton-scale impact. We also believe that biochar represents the lowest cost option (per ton of CO2) for sequestering atmospheric carbon.

Our team is made up of employees from the US, EU and rural Kenya. Our Kenya team, in particular, is primarily made up of female sales/support agents from local villages. These women represent a high degree of economic diversity, many coming from a subsistence farming background. We focus on empowerment and work to identify and support emerging community leaders.
