Project Summary / Description:

In 1989, the Lowman fire burned in Idaho near where I grew up, eventually burning over 46,000 acres of land. I remember seeing the billowing, mushroom cloud of smoke rising over the mountains that frame the north side of Boise and thinking it amazing. I always assumed that it would grow back or that someone would replant it.

Twenty-two years later, I took my wife to see where I grew up. On our travels, we were confronted with the scar of the Lowman fire. It's not really growing back. It shocked me out of my childhood understanding of the world that someone would take care of it. Amongst other things, it motivated me to start RenewWest. 

Along the way, I‚ ve found a team of people who are equally as committed. We‚ ve spent a few years developing a model that will provide value to all stakeholders and leverages additional investment to maximize impact. We‚ re going to plant trees in areas across the American West that have been damaged by severe wildfire, using capital provided by investors, and providing returns through the sale of carbon offsets on the California carbon market. 

We‚ re raising capital to pre-develop our projects to a shovel ready state and to establish and raise the fund. We‚ ll use these funds to acquire carbon conservation easements for lands in need of reforestation, pay for forestry analysis on how to plant those lands, and do early seedling supply work.
