Project Summary / Description:
In order to be durable, climate action must be bipartisan. There are a number of climate-aware Republicans in Congress wishing for permission to lead on climate. That permission can come only from fellow conservatives in home districts and states. We help build a constituency for action in those districts and states by bringing credible messengers to affirm the truth that accountable free enterprise can solve climate change, that a border adjustable carbon tax would make it in our trading partners‚ interest to join us, and that climate change is a problem of economics that has an environmental consequence.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Conservatives are the people most underrepresented in the climate conversation--a conversation conducted mostly in the language of the Left. We speak to fellow conservatives in the language of conservatism, enabling them to hear free enterprise solutions. Also, a large portion of our membership is under 30 years old. As polls show, younger Millennial and Gen Z conservatives consistently support the need for action on climate change. In order to build on that support inherent in the younger generations and to elevate the voices of young conservatives, we recruit young conservatives online and in-person, plugging them into our County Youth Chair (CYC) and our Spokesperson Team. The inaugural CYC program lasted one year until being interrupted by COVID.With our support and guidance, our CYC team wrote and published op-eds about conservative climate leadership; spoke publicly at climate rallies; made presentations at school about the EcoRight and climate change; read a book about climate change written by an MIT scientist; and more. We plan to resume the program as soon as possible. Our Spokesperson Team of 36 super-volunteers amplifies our message through interviews with the media; writing and publishing op-eds and LTEs; hosting/helping with EcoRight-focused events in their communities; engaging on social media‚Äîor any other way they want to contribute. Our team includes: 13 college students/recent graduates; 14 women; and 6 people of color. We consciously work to find diversity on this team from a pool (conservatives) that is generally white and male. Our college-aged spokespeople have concurrently served as conservative fellows with the Citizens‚ Climate Lobby, and we also see overlap with Students for Carbon Dividends, Young Conservatives for Carbon Dividends and the American Conservation Coalition.

Mission Statement:
We are the EcoRight, a balance to the Environmental Left. We stand together because we believe in the power of American free enterprise and innovation to solve climate change. Together, we encourage, embolden, and applaud conservative climate leadership. We help conservatives navigate the treacherous climate conversation with confidence. Nobody should sacrifice their conservative values to protect the environment and our future. Our conservative values are not only part of our identity, they are key to effective climate solutions.
