Project Summary / Description:

Over two billion people suffer from the effects of water scarcity and the majority of those affected live in coastal areas in developing countries and remote communities. Seawater desalination is an excellent potential solution, but desalination systems require a connection to a strong and reliable electrical grid for their power supply. 
Resolute Marine (RME) has developed a wave-driven desalination system (Wave2O‚Ñ¢) designed to serve water utility markets in developing countries and island nations where customers lack sufficient grid capacity and cannot afford the capital or time required to build and deploy desalination systems powered with electricity from central generating stations.

Wave2O 
Worldwide, women and children spend approximately 140 million hours/day collecting water for domestic use. The value of time savings accounts for almost 70% of total benefits with respect to other benefits such as reducing mortality or increasing productivity. An estimated ‚Ç¨25 million/day in increased economic activity could be generated if this time and energy were devoted to other pursuits. Wave2O‚Ñ¢ can greatly reduce personal and community resources required to obtain daily water supplies and women and children (in particular) can benefit from activities re-directed towards commerce and education. In addition, Wave2O‚Ñ¢ will improve the health and welfare of water-stressed populations by reducing mortality and poverty, creating jobs and economic growth and helping counteract the effects of climate change;
