Project Summary / Description:
The Restore Europe programme addresses the challenge of global warming and biodiversity loss through a blueprint for a merits-based collaborative approach to land restoration on a continental scale. Key in this will be the establishment of a vast network of eco-corridors across Europe, from tens of thousands of kilometres connected free-flowing river systems and links between the mountain ranges of Europe, to millions of hectares of newly connecting parks and (urban) forests, peatlands and wetlands, regenerative agriculture and agroforestry that once more play a key role in restoring biodiversity, water retention and carbon storage.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The project includes (all types of, mainly rural) communities across Europe, that are part of the eco-systems and farmlands being restored under the programme. Main aim to avoid migration from (remote, rural) communities to larger towns or abroad and brain drain through this (youth) migration, increased awareness and involvement of local communities in eco-system restoration and climate mitigation initiatives, and improved involvement of urban communities towards their surrounding countryside and natural resources. Our approach strengthens local capacity to design, implement, evaluate and scale up inclusive, gender-responsive and culturally appropriate interventions relevant to women, girls, men, boys, and other gender identities by bridging gender and sex-specific roles associated with land restoration and regenerative agriculture. Community-based groups representing interests of women and vulnerable groups will be engaged in the design and implementation of all activities through a bottom-up approach. The inclusive nature of our project, that brings together farmers, local and national government, and NGOs is a powerful, replicable process
