Project Summary / Description:
CRANE was inspired by a paper published by Prime Coalition and NYSERDA (Attached in Section 18) that defined a metric for the potential of an early-stage venture to reduce GHG emissions in the future: Emissions Reduction Potential ( ERP ). Manually and rigorously assessing ERP is a laborious and time-intensive process and, therefore, unlikely to be widely adopted. Our team, a collaboration between Rho AI, Prime Coalition, Greenometry, Clean Energy Trust, and Project Drawdown, came together to use data science, machine learning, and climate expertise to streamline this process for any particular technology through CRANE.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Climate change disproportionately impacts the poorest economies in the poorest regions of the world, while the majority of GHGs are emitted by the richest and largest global economies. CRANE‚ purpose is to provide insights and decision making support to mitigate climate change. We want to make GHG modeling capabilities publicly available to the world and create a digital ecosystem of organizations and people working on climate solutions. By distributing the knowledge and network previously concentrated in wealthy, well-connected ecosystems like Silicon Valley, we are supporting a diverse array of stakeholders in providing them opportunities to access the necessary resources to launch impactful ventures.
