Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The Seedling Project aims to empower children, through sharing knowledge and inspiration on how to obtain resilient agriculture on a household level. This will extend the child‚ understanding of food production and the importance of local and ecological production. By encouraging children to practically engage in making their own compost, planting seeds, growing their own food, and reflecting on what is on their plate, the value of organic waste and small-scale farming is highlighted. Depending on the socio-economic and cultural environment of the children, the learnings will differ, which relates to the importance of cross-cultural exchange. A deduction of this statement was performed through a pilot project. Applying it to the Kenyan context, it aims to raise awareness about the potentially circular system of organic waste, composting and growing seeds on a household level and in a bigger picture, among young people. Many of which will in the future be engaged in works related to agriculture, food markets, and waste management. In a central-European context, learnings take place through reconnecting the process of growing vegetables to the food which fills their fridges and plates. Exchanging such newly gained knowledge across continents offers mutual enrichment and co-learning.
