Project Summary / Description:

SHEBA PLASTIC was founded with the purpose of addressing the issue of plastic pollution in Africa, specifically in Rwanda. The idea for the company was born during my internship with Wild Chimpanzee Foundation in Guinea, where I saw the extent of plastic waste and its impact on the environment and wildlife. The purpose of SHEBA PLASTIC is to create an inclusive and digital solution that addresses plastic waste and promotes a circular economy. The company's solution joins all stakeholders, from producers to consumers, and encourages the responsible disposal of plastic waste through the use of a mobile application and rewards system. Through the use of technology and data, SHEBA PLASTIC hopes to reduce plastic pollution in Africa and contribute to a more sustainable future.

SHEBA PLASTIC is designed to empower communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the climate movement by creating an inclusive system that brings together all stakeholders, from producers to consumers and recyclers. By using technology, such as mobile applications and QR codes, the solution is accessible and reliable, and allows everyone to participate in the circular economy and fight against plastic pollution.

The digital nature of the solution makes it possible for people with varying levels of education, income, and access to technology to participate. The app is user-friendly and rewards users for their eco-friendly behavior, providing motivation for people who may not have been previously engaged in environmental activism.

Additionally, SHEBA PLASTIC is designed to address the disproportionate impact of plastic pollution on climate-vulnerable communities, particularly in Africa. The app provides data on plastic pollution in Africa to companies, allowing them to understand the extent of the problem and their role in contributing to it. This information can be used to inform policies and programs aimed at reducing plastic pollution in these communities, and to hold companies accountable for their environmental impact.

Overall, SHEBA PLASTIC empowers communities that have been traditionally underrepresented in the climate movement by providing a digital solution that is inclusive, accessible, and empowering. By incentivizing people to take action on plastic pollution, and providing data on the issue to companies, SHEBA PLASTIC is helping to build a more equitable and sustainable future.
