Project Summary / Description:

The project was formed by an agronomist (myself) and two farmers following research conducted by Professor Peter McGee and Dr Tendo Mukasa Mugerwa into Melanised Endophytic Fungi (MEF) for soil carbon sequestration. Peter and Tendo were able to scientifically demonstrate specific fungi were responsible for rapid soil carbon sequestration (now peer reviewed work). 
We saw the potential importance of their research to agriculture and climate mitigation, understanding that soil represents the largest terrestrial carbon sink on the planet. In particular we saw the practical adopt-ability of the technology for farmers, and hence the scale-ability. Feeling deeply concerned about the climate crisis, we established a research institute called SoilCQuest 2031 to take the research forward with the aim of global deployment and giga-tonne scale carbon sequestration.
