Project Summary / Description:
Through this project STAMP Investments seeks to catalyse a switch to efficient renewable energy within tea farming communities in Kiambu county Kenya by scaling up the use of biomass briquettes and solar products. The project will have a centralised briquette manufacturing facility for quality control which will supply to community based household energy centre‚ (HEC) around Tea factories in Kiambu. The HEC will be suitable in a domestic setting and will act as business hubs employing women and youths to distribute the clean energy products to their communities which will include improved clean cookstoves and solar energy for tea pickers and farmers who are off grid. In Kenya the stove industry for ICS and solar products has made great strides as evidenced by manufacturers and distributors of clean energy products setting shop in Kenya. Despite the enormous strides made in clean energy products particularly stove on affordability and quality, many consumers, distributors and manufacturers have recognized there is a need for affordable consumer financing options. Often, typical financing options available in these markets, such as microfinance loans, are not attractive to HEC and HH due to high interests .This has resulted in expensive stoves and solar products. The motivation behind this is on how communities can access clean energy products through ease and comfortable terms.
