In Sub-Saharan Africa, 590m people do not have access to an electric grid connection. The existing solutions are expensive and often negatively impact health and the environment. Standard Microgrid is ushering in a new era of value based, efficient energy consumers using digital energy services powered by solar microgrids that deliver a sustainable return on investment. 

Using a proprietary microgrid system, and a mobile app / billing platform, unskilled women within communities are empowered to resell energy credit to rural and peri-urban households, small businesses and clinics at a price that is substantially less than their current least cost alternative.

Energy is sold to customers through our mobile billing platform. The platform itself is designed to be user friendly, empowering local, unskilled women within the community to generate an income through purchasing and reselling energy credit to fellow community members. 

Our target market is rural Zambians who are almost exclusively black Africans. Standard Microgrid literally empowers these people of colour, by providing access to energy that is sustainable, reliable and cheaper than their current least cost alternative. 

In contrast to solutions that provide customers with re-chargeble batteries (DC current), Standard Microgrid provides (AC current) which allows for a broad range of connections, including appliances necessary to run small businesses like barber shops and tuck shops, thereby empowering potential business owners and expanding their income potential in new ways, previously out of reach. 

An AC connection also allows for the use of basic medical equipment necessary to run a small medical clinic. Members of vulnerable communities who would previously have been forced to travel to urban areas are now able to heed signs of ill health and act on them timeously with access to medical facilities in close proximity, powered by Standard Microgrid‚ system.
