Project Summary / Description:
SUNTAEG Energy was founded as a direct result of observing first-hand the consequences of a lack of access to clean and reliable electricity supply in West Africa. Approximately 600 million people do not have access to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa and existing approaches to the dissemination of solar solutions have fallen short of the expected performance and impact. SUNTAEG Energy‚ team, consequently, started by exchanging with local stakeholders in Senegal to assess the needs and establish a pilot program in order to develop the most effective and impactful way to supply solar solutions.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Women empowerment, job creation and support of local entrepreneurial ventures are central to SUNTAEG Energy‚ core mission. As part of its contribution to women empowerment, SUNTAEG Energy has established partnerships with community GIEs (Groupe d‚ Int r√™ts √âconomiques), which are cooperative women groups that operate small enterprises providing local services and products. As part of these partnerships, SUNTAEG Energy provides the opportunity to train local women entrepreneurs to become focal contacts in the marketing and sales of its solar solutions within their respective communities, and pay them by commission. Additionally, SUNTAEG Energy has offered solar home systems at GIEs to provide lighting and phone charging capabilities to increase productivity and security, while also offering discounts to the members of the GIEs for the installation of solar solutions based on their household‚ needs. SUNTAEG Energy has developed multiple funding applications in the hopes of receiving grant funding to continue its efforts towards the electrification of GIEs located within the communities we work with. We have also partnered to provide solar-home systems to women entrepreneurs that operate a network of 150 kiosks. SUNTAEG Energy highly values fostering an inclusive environment within its own team and women represent 60% of the team, including both technical and administrative roles.
