Project Summary / Description:
We want to incentivise soft mobility in Luxembourg using novel trip detection technology and gamified incentive models. SoftCommute Luxembourg will be a country-wide online community based on the MobiDiff pilot, which aims to encourage the municipal workers to favour walking, biking, carpooling and public transport for their daily commutes via rewards payable in survcoins, a dedicated virtual decarbonisation currency. Participants of the SoftCommute Community will earn "softcoins" for their detected zero-carbon and low carbon trips and be invited to trade used goods on a marketplace denominated in this currency. We thus tap the emulation and goodwill which can be generated from detecting, recording and sharing low or zero carbon trips on a dedicated platform. The collaboration with the municipality of Differdange was formalised through an agreement signed on 17 August 2022 by the Council of Aldermen on the one hand and the societal impact company Survcoin S.A.-S.I.S on the other.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
By nature, the SoftCommute Luxembourg community will be open to everyone living, working or studying in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. Thus everyone will be in a position to assume the role of a soft mobilty ambassador in Luxembourg, no matter their age, gender or origin. Hence, a young kid riding to school on his bike, a worker walking to work on a daily basis, a housewife doing her grocery shopping using a cargobike or a cross-border bank employee commuting by train from France or Belgium will develop a sense of pertaining to a community engaged in effective climate action.
