Our story began in the early 2000s when Dr. Qing-Chang Zhong, Syndem's founder, was starting his career in electrical engineering academia with the firm belief that energy is the foundation of any society. As a child growing up in a home without electricity, Zhong was keen to "keep the lights on" for developed and developing nations. Recognizing the momentous consequences of the transition from big centralized fossil and nuclear generation facilities to decentralized renewable energy sources, he has spent nearly 20 years on investigating how to lower the significant barrier of integrating high volumes of renewable energy into power systems.

Our project supports diversity internally, by hiring diverse individuals, and externally by empowering different consumers and communities in countries all over the world. Notably, our technology is extremely attractive to developing countries and offers substantial value in leapfrogging large electric generation and transmission infrastructure since our products can empower individual homes to operate as a micro-grid and connect with neighbors to support each other. This is especially appealing to rural communities. Furthermore, Rui is particularly interested in social justice and keen to advocate for diversity in all areas, beyond socio-economic class and gender.

Making it easier to transmit and use renewable energy is a primary solution to climate disruption. Syndem has developed a new operating system for an inconspicuous but ubiquitous voltage and current control device known as a power electronic converter. Our technology integrates renewable electricity using advanced converters with built-in storage for off-grid and on-grid applications. In this start-up phase, we focus on the residential solar market. The technology, though, is easily adaptable for wind generation and storage systems, and for utility-scale renewable power generation. Our mission is to make power systems worldwide stable, reliable, and sustainable.
