Project Summary / Description:
The commercial solar space has grown very slowly the last decade even as residential and utility-scale have exploded. This is because regular panels catch the wind and are difficult to mount on large flat roofs. Taka figured out how to make the former Solyndra panel architecture affordable to solve this. In addition to solving the mounting difficulty on rooftops, photovoltaic tubes which allows substantial light through between them have been proven by researchers in California and Italy to work perfectly over many crops like strawberries or citrus.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Taka will enable many Gigawatts of solar to be installed that otherwise would be cost-prohibitive and help to decarbonize the electricity sector. The arrays also make adding EV chargers easier, to help decarbonize transportation.

Of 5 people who have been involved with Taka directly, 2 are women. Because gender (and ethnic) diversity has been repeatedly proven to improve performance, Taka seeks to have gender balance from the board through to the workforce as we grow. Taka is forward-focused and will not perform credit checks of any sort on future job applicants. Studies have shown that companies which do not screen aggressively in ways like that perform better and have happier workers.

Mission Statement:
Taka’s award-winning solar product, developed with DOE, NSF and California Energy Commission support, will revolutionize multiple segments to greatly expand the adoption of solar energy. The core technology is a round geometry incorporating standard materials such as Silicon cells and glass tubes adapted from the solar thermal industry. This allows much more affordable installation over parking lots, in conjunction with crops underneath and directly onto bodies of water with no separate floats needed.
