Project Summary / Description:
While energy markets like California contain high renewable energy penetration, they increasingly face curtailment risk. Our project Is developing technology that enables clean energy generators to sell power from would otherwise be stranded assets. Similarly, the technology connects bitcoin miners to low-cost electricity, required for profitable mining. By closing the clean energy and Bitcoin mining technology gap, our project gives traditional buyers and sellers of electricity a new approach for clean energy monetization. This pairing provides a win-win solution for increasing the availability of variable renewable generation in power markets, while providing low-cost, carbon-free electricity for bitcoin mining.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Some of the dirtiest power generating facilities are located in low income and communities of color. When these communities organize to advocate for the closing of these facilities, policy makers and regulators often argue that there are limits to how much clean energy generation can meet overall power needs. Our project provides a solution to these limits.
