Project Summary / Description:
The purpose of this project is to pilot a novel zero CO2, zero fuel clean cooking stove. with about 20 urban slum families, and to lay out a pathway to scale . Tridealhouse is a social enterprise developing a self-financing housing solution to solve urban slum poverty. One of the problems we encountered is replacing the woodfuel or charcoal needed to cook. The innovative ClimateStoven solution we developed the last 9 months does not exist yet because tier1/2 off-grid solar home systems do not generate enough power to cook directly, and batteries are too expensive. This problem can be solved by gradually storing the tier PV power as heat over the day in 30/40 kg of magnetite. Therefore the current ClimateStoven invention/ solution we present to Keeling is a separate project within Tridealhouse aimed at developing a new type of zero CO2 and zero fuel cooking stove for developing countries.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The clean cooking problem affects around 2,6 billion people. They mainly live in least developed countries. They can be rural or urban poor. Women and children are disproportionately impacted by the indoor air quality impacts as they spend more time close to polluting stoves compared to men. In addition to the direct health impacts women and girls in rural areas who collect woodfuel far from their homes are at high risk of physical injury from carrying wood on their heads and backs. In both rural and urban areas women and children are negatively impacted by the loss of economic productivity and educational opportunities from time spent gathering fuel and preparing the stoves. Our Climatestoven will per installed oven specifically benefit woman and children: - by eliminating all or most fuel costs and save an average family yearly 100 $ in fuelwood, charcoal or LPG costs - save an average of 10 hours per week or 500 hours per year for collecting wood - eliminate inhouse air pollution and black carbon completely - will save around 650$r annual direct or indirect health costs (in local PPP and related to GDP) per family In addition it will - recurrently save 1 tons CO2 per year over 25 years and mitigate deforestation in their neighborhoods

Mission Statement:
Tridealhouse was founded in December 2018 in Belgium by humanitarian entrepreneurs. The objective of Tridealhouse is to develop innovative urban slum housing incorporating 12 of 17 SDG and sustainable utilities. The first country to develop this new type of slum housing is Ethiopia. Tridealhouse signed a MOU with the main technical university in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University in 2021. Both partners intensively work together to research and combine best practices of UN agencies and industrial innovations into new, locally manufacturable solutions. One of these is a novel type of zero CO2 and zero fuel cooking stove, ClimateStoven, presented here. Therefore our current region/country of operation is Ethiopia.
