Project Summary / Description:
Climate Leadership helps companies operating in Poland in entering the road towards climate neutrality by offering expert advice and knowledge exchange helpful in shifting business models, production and consumption models. It connects experts with corporate decision-makers, allowing them to make changes grounded in scientific knowledge and business practice, resulting in creation of climate leaders that can inspire the business community to limit their greenhouse gas emissions. The programme, launched in the fall of 2019, is an effect of cooperation between UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre (NGO promoting the work of UN Environment Program in Poland since 1991) and prof. Bolesław Rok - a longtime expert in corporate social responsibility, a well-know academic and practitioner, promoting sustainable business models and working in one of the most important Polish business schools - Kozminski University. The project was inspired by UN agendas promoting dialogue of different stakeholders (such as the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment) scientific knowledge on climate change and solutions to its ongoing challenge (IPCC reports, UNEP Emissions Gap Report), as well as UNEA - United Nations Environment Assembly - resolutions regarding climate, business and sustainability. It also looked at different initiatives on the global level, such as We Mean Business coalition or We Are Still In in adapting their experiences to the Polish context, ie. a coal-dominated energy sector. A need to speed up action towards climate neutrality is particularly clear, also having in mind policy changes ahead, such as the ones suggested in the European Green Deal.
