Project Summary / Description:
Human waste is mostly considered as harmful as it may contribute to water source pollution and dissemination of disease such as cholera especially in slums and country side. The HumaFert project convert human waste into safe organic fertilizer which is used to improve agriculture. Human feces in pit latrines are first treated by fungi to remove bad odor and reduce harmful microorganisms, and there by allowing safe disposal and recycling into environmental friendly fertilizer. The processed and treated human waste are used in agriculture to enrich soil with nutrients and therefore prevent air and water pollution.
