Project Summary / Description:

In 2012 AEP Ohio (local utility) partnered with the Village of Amesville on the development of its Sustainability Roadmap, a document meant to serve as a framework for the village‚ ongoing commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. This roadmap was made possible because of the Village of Amesville‚ successful participation in AEP Ohio‚ Community Energy Savers pilot program and the significant existing sustainability efforts of the community. This Roadmap contains actionable steps in the areas of energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling and economic development that we would like to bring to completion and expand in certain areas. Many of the items have been achieved or are currently in progress, but we wish to expand our solar use, conservation programming and access to additional resources. 
As stated in the Sustainability Roadmap (energy section) goals were: 1) Upgrade Athens County ‚ an effort to win $5 Million through the Georgetown University Energy Prize competition. 2) Host an annual ‚ Sustainable Energy‚ symposium. 3) Encourage residents and businesses to reduce their energy usage. 4) Provide residents and local businesses with information regarding renewable energy. 5) Promote the Ohio Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) offered by Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action. 6) Explore additional options for installation of solar panels. 7) Benchmark the village building using EPA‚ online Tool, ENERGY STAR¬Æ Portfolio Manager. 8) Promote and participate in the Earth Hour initiative using local media outlets.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:

On behalf of the Village of Amesville in Athens County, Ohio, I am proud to announce our commitment to become a SolSmart-designated community. In partnership with the SolSmart team, the Village of Amesville’s dedicated staff members will work to improve solar market conditions, making it faster, easier, and more affordable for our residents and businesses to install solar energy systems. These efforts will also increase the efficiency of local processes related to solar development, which may save our local government time and money.
