Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Empowerment is literally a core purpose of the game. When most people think of board games they think of Monopoly. Monopoly is not a board game. Monopoly is a joke someone made to try to show the vacancy of spinning around a 40 square closed universe where landlords charge ever evolving prices and random chance is the only thing separating you from eventual bankruptcy. Our game, Course Correction, is a cooperative board game. Inspiriations for the game include Spirit Island, Pandemic, Pandemic Legacy, Terraforming Mars, and Seven Wonders. Cooperative style games can unsurprisingly teach people cooperation. Our game does this and goes further, providing a wide array of experiential learning opportunities on the importance of empathy, creativity, planning, and leadership on sustainability outcomes. The game characters are diverse and give the opportunity for BIPOC people to identify and see themselves in the characters. Furthermore, there is no white male character in the game, providing white men the opportunity to play the game and accomplish something meaningful and successful while playing a character that doesn't look like them.
