Project Summary / Description:
The project is an extension of the African Climate reality Project impact grant which started in 2022 in Bimbia. The grant helped to minimize the impacts of deforestation on the communities. This extension is aimed at establishing innovative and sustainable agricultural businesses for women in the Bimbia Bonadikombo Community while expanding to other forest dwelling communities in the south west region of Cameroon. Women within these communities from a masters research conducted in these communities in 2020, revealed that they were left out of climate change decision making platforms and projects due to reasons which included: limited knowledge on Climate change issues, poverty and lack of land ownership. These women tend to concentrate on small portions of family lands where they do multi-cropping and sometimes use artificial fertilizers to increase yields. In the long run, the lands lose fertility and their households move to states of perpetual food insecurity.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
four women who were part of our sink our CO2 Campaign workshop held in October last year started their own homegardens and have harvested from its yields. The products have been sold to raise little money which has enabled one, who is single mother to send her daughter back to school. We are introducing them to climate discussions by going along with them to seminars and conferences where they are given a platform to speak up and also make their voices heard. Our project will further empower them through the following objectives: Start up a climate club support group Initiate the construction of a solar-powered nursery and a solar-powered borehole in the community of Bimbia amplify rural women‚ voices, perspectives and knowledge at Divisional and regional Levels Build capacities of 200 women for transformation, packaging and marketing of their farm products for the Cameroonian markets and beyond. Create a marketing hub for rural women.

Mission Statement:
Its main mission is to reframe how we think about governance of the commons by ensuring the representation of indigenous and rural voices on national and international environmental decision-making platforms and programs. It is authorized to operate across Africa. However, it has been operating in Cameroon since 2022 and gained its legalization in 2023. AVAF as it is abbreviated has implemented projects around bee farming, home gardening, climate leadership, snail farming and nursery establishment for landscape restoration in the Bimbia Bonadikombo community forest.
