Project Summary / Description:
Most of the kids I work with have a deep love for the arts (Spoken Word Poetry, Music, Dance, and Bead works). Using that to get to them and influence them positively is very important. They feel understood and open up easily. That is a great tool for making sure they don‚ t end up back in prison. The goal is to help them lead positive, normal and progressive lives.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
We plan on planting trees in the prison. Every child gets to plant a tree every month and that becomes their responsibility while in Prison. That will teach them responsibility skills that will go with them even after being released. They will also attach four line poems/music lines to the tree that will stick with the plant. In 10-20 years they will have contributed to a forest in the Prison that will help reduce global warming. We‚ ll also have a couple of the established artists they look up to to give talks to them and/or take part in the tree planting ceremonies.
