Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
We believe our mission is truly intersectional in nature from an internationalist perspective. It is undeniable that the advent of the Internet has revolutionized our society, economy, and the way we interact. The Internet has unparalleled potential to lift people out of poverty and create new industries - but we cannot lose sight of the unequal nature of the internet. It is unequal from an accessibility standpoint and unequal from the resulting effects of its carbon emissions. Both of which disproportionately affect poorer, POC, and indigenous communities. It is imperative that we develop this resource in a way that doesn‚ t contribute to climate change or the continuing social stratification in our communities if we want to continue to realize its full potential. We find that the solution to this problem mirrors those for most fights for justice. What is needed is a combination of both individual/collective efforts, fueled by environmental education and mobilization. There isn‚ t a better platform or catalyst than the internet to hold those in power to ensure that our future - not just the internet's future - our collective future is one of climate justice powered by renewable energy. We hope our efforts empower those fighting for this better future through digital means.
