Project Summary / Description:
weMORI is the world‚ first dedicated forest-action app. Our purpose is to mitigate the climate and extinction crisis by creating a global movement that protects and restores the world‚ threatened forests. With the app, users can fund high-impact, community-driven forest projects with a tap of their fingers, and track the impact (in CO2 locked in, sequestered, number of trees protected % planted, and more) their donations have made in real time. By making action easy, impact transparent, and offering an up-to-date interface, we are mobilizing the global community to action, starting from the digital native generation.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The WeMori app empowers everyday, non-activist individuals by providing a platform that puts the power to make an impact in their hands. With weMORI, anybody can become a leader. Everything within the app can be shared on the users‚ social media accounts, and there are features that encourage our users to invite their community to participate in protecting & restoring forests. Users are also regularly invited to take further action by volunteering for weMORI. weMORI has had volunteers from six continents, and as a team we recognize the importance of representing all perspectives without discrimination. As our work relates to forests, it is imperative to recognize indigenous rights and collaborate with indigenous and/or local communities whenever possible. We ensure that projects we support are driven by reliable, local nonprofits that work together with impacted communities. For example, with our restoration partner in Mexico, Grupo Ecol gico Sierra Gorda, we employ a model where local farmers are financially rewarded for protecting forests. To ensure that our work is constantly in consideration of indigenous rights, we have a special advisor for indigenous rights (Maria Aguilera, LLB, based in Colombia) overseeing our projects-related operations. In the near future, we plan to implement functions that facilitate deeper connections between the benefactor (the donor) and the beneficiaries (project implementers and/or the local community) into our app. These include, but are not limited to, functions that allow project implementers to send content such as videos directly to funders, and/or chat functions that allow funders to send messages directly to project implementers. Project implementers and local communities are often overlooked by forest protection and restoration nonprofits, but we believe that it is important that their efforts to mitigate the environmental crisis are highlighted whenever possible. We are also planning to host public events that serve as a platform for project implementers and local communities to share their story
