Project Summary / Description:
WeRadiate‚ initial focus was to develop and build energy independence by harnessing heat energy from the decomposition of food scraps through the compost process. This idea came forth after Hurricane Sandy inflicted damage to New York City which endured for months and years. After field-testing our initial prototypes we shifted gears based on customer feedback to innovate and develop high-quality, low-cost, digital compost tools and technology. WeRadiate currently serves as a compost monitoring platform capturing key data for compost facilities and operators to become more effective, efficient, and educated with their processes to enhance ecological restoration and sequester carbon.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Since the beginning of WeRadiate‚ formation we have been committed to enhance diversity and ensure inclusive opportunities for individuals of various backgrounds, cultures, gender and socio-economic status. Our name, WeRadiate, evolved from a community-led brainstorm across a spectrum of diverse economic, demographic and socially-minded participants. As an organization, we offer various events to support diversity within the compost-sector including educational opportunities and workshops for students of all ages (elementary to retirement) to learn about healthy soil and compost science, we organize free community compost bike tours for participants to interact with community processing sites and learn about waste reduction, and provide one-on-one trainings with environmental non-profits and community organizations to initiate on-site composting. As evidenced by the diversity makeup of our team, advisors and partners, we are inherently aware of the necessity to promote compost to a larger audience particularly across communities of color and gender. We are acutely aware of diversity and its importance within the environmental and ecological movement. Our service model also includes economic diversity as our platform represents various clients including community composters in urban settings, large rural farms, and landscape companies adjacent to these locations.
