Project Summary / Description:
INTERVENTION CONTEXT / ISSUE TO WHICH THE PROJECT TO RESPONDS According to the Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Committee (ZimVAC) report of 2021, poverty continues to be one of the underlying causes of vulnerability to food and nutrition insecurity as well as precarious livelihoods in Zimbabwe. This is congruous to findings from a consultative meeting Women In Communities Zimbabwe conducted in Shurugwi Rural District, where communities in Ward 11 (comprised of approximately 1,500 households) live in chronic poverty and chronic food insecurity. The communities rely on rain-fed agriculture, which is climate-sensitive, for their livelihood. In addition, the communities, and households thereof, have high exposure to climate events; low capacity and information on climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction; poor adaptation strategies to progressive climate change; poor access to underground water; no reliable sources of income and livelihood options ‚ climate change absorptive, adaptive, and transformative capacities. The ward is located in agricultural region IV, which is characterized by dry deciduous, sparse vegetation and low annual rainfall ranging from 450-600mm. Exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis, a vicious cycle of poverty and chronic food insecurity has remained a challenge in the ward because of climate-induced droughts and floods on the backdrop of high unemployment and economic shocks. THE GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT Found on 31st of October, 2021, the project is designed To strengthen the resilience of Ward 11 households to economic and climate challenges through women empowerment .

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
According to Fussel (2010), not all people or groups are equally vulnerable to climate change (an individual and social issue) impacts. People with the least resources and adaptive capacity, those who are marginalized socially, economically, culturally, politically, institutionally, or otherwise, and having physical disability are the most vulnerable. Thus, women, youth, and people with disabilities (PWDs) are disproportionately impacted by climate change, yet they are not fully and meaningfully involved, and their interests are often times excluded from climate change decision making processes, policy development, and planning at local, national and international levels. Climate change can only be addressed, if and only if, women, youth, and PWDs ‚ who make up more than half of the population ‚ are actively, fully, and meaningfully involved in climate change decision making processes, policy development, and their voices are heard. This will be in line with the human rights principles of participation, non-discrimination, and transparency ‚ for inclusive civic engagement to end climate change induced poverty and food insecurity in line with SDG 1 (No poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). In this regard, the project will empower women, youth, and PWDs through the integration of the Human Rights Based Approach, the Gender Mainstreaming Model, the Collective Impact Model by (Kania and Kramer, 2011), and the Shared Power Model by (Wong, Zimmerman, and Parker, 2010). Women produce more than half of the food produced and are in constant contact with the natural environment for household and community livelihoods, yet they remain disenfranchised in climate policy. And according to Kwiatkowski (2017), In the last decade, anthropogenic climate change has caused strong impacts on natural and human systems worldwide. It is of particular importance to include youths in international decision-making process centred on climate change as they represent the closest relatives to future generations.
