Project Summary / Description:
The Zero Net Energy Farm concept evolved from our biodiesel plant in a disadvantaged community in California. ZNEFs generate all of their own fuel and power from local renewable resources, and provide green jobs and economic development in disadvantaged areas. The concept is to involve farms and farm workers in this project. The business model is to develop a demonstration site at Red Rock Ranch in a disadvantaged area of the San Joaquin Valley. The Master Community Design for the project was developed with a tool developed for this project, the ZNEF GeoPlanner, which is an interactive map using ARC GIS to analyze the renewable energy resources for a particular farm, apply technology types for converting the resources into energy, optimizing, permitting and financing the project.
