Project Summary / Description:
How: Experimentation and multiple design cycles to achieve the present TRL6. The prototype collector system was tested and certified by ICC-SRCC. Market development is underway. Why: There are significant advantages to integrating rooftop solar collectors with skylights, resulting in one installation rather than two. 1) Roof mounted solar thermal collectors can be unsightly and result in multiple roof penetrations. 2) Skylights on the sunny side of the roof can cause substantial heat penetration. 3) Skylights are placed where light is needed, therefore nighttime LED lighting and daytime lighting are collocated.
