Mission Statement:
Created in 1990, Energies pour le Monde Foundation supports and promotes access to clean, reliable, and quality energy from local renewable sources, thereby contributing to global poverty alleviation and environmental protection. 
Fondem focuses its actions where electrification is most needed: the rural areas of Sub-Saharan Africa and other critical countries such as Madagascar. Access to electricity is a prerequisite for development, ensuring the provision of basic needs.

Our approach sees electrification as a means to achieve economic and social development, through the support to income-generating activities (IGA). IGA foster dynamism in rural communities while securing stable electricity demand and subsequent revenues for an electricity operator, ensuring a durable electricity supply. Fondem’s projects are usually multi-disciplinary, articulating around energy access (SDG7) several other pillars such as access to water, gender equality or protection of the environment. 

Fondem acts at all stages of a decentralized rural electrification project, in collaboration with its local partners for the design, implementation and operation of electrical installations. In all its projects, Fondem performs remote monitoring, while all the activities are performed on-site by a local partnered NGO.
