Women, who often manage cooking duties in these settings, benefit from cleaner and more efficient cooking methods, reducing their exposure to indoor air pollution and associated health risks. By prioritizing institutional-scale cooking, this project creates opportunities for job creation and economic empowerment within these communities, particularly for women running the kitchens and the youth who are being fed at these educational institutions. Additionally, by integrating biodiesel-powered cookstoves into existing infrastructure, it ensures affordability and accessibility for institutions with limited resources. Ultimately, this initiative not only addresses climate change but also tackles social inequities, amplifying the voices and agency of those traditionally marginalized in the climate movement within institutional settings.
