The interdisciplinary nature of this project, which combines aspects of materials science, food technology, and environmental science, creates avenues for individuals from diverse backgrounds to engage and contribute. This inclusivity promotes diversity in STEM fields, where women and people of color are often underrepresented.
Furthermore, the development of edible packaging that can be customized based on the availability of regional products (such as wheat bran, corn, etc.) provides opportunities for local communities, especially in agricultural regions, to engage in sustainable practices. By utilizing agricultural by-products like wheat bran, our project supports small-scale local farmers and promotes economic resilience in rural areas.
The innovation and enterprise aspects of our project are fundamentally driven by the urgent need to address the environmental issues stemming from food packaging waste. Our innovation lies in the concept of high-strength, non-permeable edible and smart food packaging, which is unique and groundbreaking. This innovation not only transforms the way we package and consume food but also directly replaces traditional packaging methods.
By focusing on innovative solutions to replace disposable plastics with environmentally friendly alternatives, this product opens up opportunities for diverse voices and perspectives to contribute to sustainability efforts.
