The project directly empowers rural women and girls who constitute over 90% of users of the traditional three stone cooking method. According to clean cooking alliance, over 4 million women and children die annually from complications associated with exposure to indoor air pollution from traditional cooking method that produces a lot of harmful smoke. Economically the project empowers women through reduced costs from use of ICS that uses minimal fuel wood. This is because the ICS is 40% more efficient than the traditional method. It also empowers youth by providing employment as ICS producers, distributors and retailers. The ICS produced and promoted reduces Green Houses Gases (GHGs) emissions thereby mitigating climate change impacts to vulnerable poor communities.
