The holistic ram pump program covers technical, organizational, and financial aspects. Social Preparation is applied to create ownership of the community through water associations over the water systems which are situated in far flung upland communities. The associations set up empower especially the women and this is reflected in the fact that some 70% of the officers are women. Having total control over the operation, repair and maintenance, the members of the associations, especially the trained local village technicians are proud of their system. Most of the beneficiaries of our holistic ram pump water systems are engaged in rainfed agriculture with one crop cycle. With erosion and sudden droughts caused by the Changing Climate, production, and income decreases. Many of those farmers have strong inferiority feeling towards people of the lowlands. But with their unique water system and their lives changed because of easy access to an increased volume of water and their empowered water associations, the beneficiaries feel proud. For farmers irrigation water changes the farm, with crops surviving, crop cycle(s) added and or farm diversified, which makes them proud and even causes kids to stay rather than leave for the cities.
