Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our CEO Dr. Kate Murphy is a woman of mixed Asian Indian and White heritage passionate about getting more women of color into climate. She has often found herself the only woman in the room, the only woman on the team, or the only woman in an entire company and deeply understands the alienation this can induce. Our CTO Dr. Spencer Whitman grew up as a religious minority in a rural community and is also familiar with the alienation that comes with being classed as ‘other’. He grew up in a below-average income home, having been on free and reduced lunch programs during grade school. We are both aware of the myriad ways people feel excluded and are committed to building an inclusive workplace. Longer term, Aquarry has the potential to revitalize mining communities affected by the closure of open pit mines. Redeveloping legacy mines for CDR will mean renewed job and leadership opportunities for those affected by the closure. This is particularly relevant in coal-producing regions as fossil fuels are phased out. We hope that bringing former coal workers into CDR projects will further increase support for climate change mitigation among these communities.

Mission Statement:
Aquarry is repurposing flooded legacy surface mines, aka "pit lakes," for carbon capture and storage while simultaneously improving water quality in these often-toxic sites. We aim to permanently remove 7 GtCO2 from the atmosphere by 2050, with costs <$70/tCO2.
