Our project empowers traditionally underrepresented groups in the climate movement, specifically women in the fishing industry in Côte d'Ivoire. By addressing the health and environmental challenges linked to traditional fish smoking methods, predominantly practiced by women, we strive to improve respiratory well-being and economic opportunities. The initiative ensures the active involvement of women in major artisanal fishing communities, offering them access to low-carbon fish ovens. Collaboration with "UNSCOFEPCI," a union of 26 cooperatives with 3000 women members, amplifies the impact on female empowerment. This approach recognizes and addresses the unique vulnerabilities and contributions of women in the fishing sector, aiming to uplift their economic status, improve community health, and demonstrate that sustainable practices can be both inclusive and transformative for traditionally marginalized groups in the climate movement.
