Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
As stated above, our business model is centered on combating climate change and enhancing environmental resilience by collecting and converting large amounts of waste into useful products. To this effect, we work with indigenous waste collectors and youth environmental groups (called eco-groups) to pick up wastes, some of which is processed into climate-friendly cooking stoves and clean energy briquettes, thus create sustainable employment for women, men and youth. The EcoKitchen project is specifically designed to be highly affordable so as to reach the "last mile" customer in remote rural communities, who are predominantly indigenous women and girls responsible for household cooking. With the aim of changing behaviours and inspiring an intrinsic desire for environmental protection, we engage in community empowerment through the organization of workshops in vulnerable indigenous communities. We educate participants on the environmental and health challenges associated with reliance on the cutting of trees for cooking fuel, the benefits of forest preservation, and the adoption of decarbonizing energy consumption practices at the household level. In doing so, we also raise awareness among women, men and youth in climate vulnerable indigenous communities about the use of climate-friendly cooking stoves and clean energy briquettes to create a favourable market environment.
