Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
SmartBiogas prioritizes inclusivity and empowerment by actively engaging and supporting traditionally underrepresented groups in the climate movement, including women, youth, and marginalized communities in Tanzania. Through targeted outreach and capacity building initiatives, our project provides opportunities for participation, leadership development, and skill-building tailored to the specific needs and aspirations of these groups. Women are particularly empowered through SmartBiogas, as they often bear the disproportionate burden of energy poverty and are key stakeholders in household energy decisions. Our project promotes gender equality by involving women in decision-making processes, providing training on biogas system operation and maintenance, and creating income-generating opportunities through entrepreneurship and cooperative ownership of biogas facilities. Youth engagement is another cornerstone of SmartBiogas, as young people represent the future stewards of the environment and champions of sustainable development. We offer youth-led training programs, internships, and mentorship opportunities to cultivate leadership skills, environmental awareness, and innovation in renewable energy solutions. Moreover, SmartBiogas actively collaborates with climate vulnerable communities, such as those residing in remote rural areas or facing the impacts of climate change, to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
