The cloud forest reforestation project empowers rural women traditionally underrepresented in the climate movement by involving them in decision-making processes, leadership roles, and economic and livelihood development opportunities. Through training and capacity-building initiatives, such rural communities (women) gain skills in seed germination, plant nursery management, and conservation practices. The second phase that addresses by the program is to enable these women to come into one locality to establish a polytunnel greenhouse to expand their project. This phase will look into rare and threatened species propagation in the locality under direct guidance by the project management team and the Forest Department of Sri Lanka. This will increase threatened and rare species in the locality and also create a nursery for such rare plants to be available for secondary ecosystem restoration. Additionally, the project ensures equitable access to resources and benefits, fostering gender equality and inclusion. By amplifying the contributions of women, the project not only addresses mitigation of environmental challenges but also promotes social justice and empowerment, creating a more inclusive and resilient climate movement. These rural communities will undoubtedly benefit by the project’s outcomes.
