There are over 2 million Motorcycle taxis in Kenya and over 5 million within East Africa. These motorcycle taxis commonly known as bodabodas is the biggest employer of youth; 80% of bodaboda riders are aged between 19 – 35 years. The use of dirty fuel to power these bodabodas is estimated to contribute close to 60% of GHG emissions within the transport sector posing a great challenge when it comes to decarbonizing transport. According to the World Health Organization, in Africa, 600,000 people a year die from exposure to fumes generated from polluting fuels used for transport, cooking and heating, the majority of whom are women and children.
Safiri SaaS provides the bodaboda industry with a market driven solution that enables them to easily, and comfortably switch to electric bodabodas. Electric bodabodas on average increase the riders daily take-home by 40%+ through reduced expenditure on fuel and vehicle maintenance. By utilizing Safiri SaaS, bodaboda riders further save on mobile money transaction costs which normally range from 6%-10% of the transaction amount on top of being able to manage their cashflows effectively.
