Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The target beneficiaries of the project are the indigenous communities in the islands of Kiribati, and specifically its women, children and young people who are disproportionately impacted by water insecurity. The uniqueness of our project is that we engage, mentor & empower the youth from within the beneficiary indigenous community to maintain this solar solution, while also providing them with the training to conduct awareness workshops on WASH to change behaviors and adoption of modern sanitation, female hygiene procedures, water conservation and proper waste disposal. Additionally, with since our project will ensure perennial availability of clean water, our objective is to train and support these communities to start sustainable farming that will provide nutrition as well as agri-business entrepreneurship possibilities, thereby providing economic benefits that will further assist in reducing inequalities and improving their socio-economic conditions.
