Project Summary / Description:
Heny Farm is a climate-smart, integrated poultry and fish farm based in Nigeria, dedicated to producing organic poultry, fish, and feeds while addressing the challenges of health, food security, and environmental sustainability. Our project focuses on scaling up sustainable farming practices to meet the growing demand for safe and nutritious food. Using innovative methods such as non-toxic herbal extracts, black soldier fly larvae, and hydroponic fodder, we produce poultry and fish with zero greenhouse gas emissions. Our organic feeds empower smallholder farmers to adopt sustainable farming, improving their productivity and income. The project also includes expanding our production capacity, enhancing renewable energy use, and developing an e-commerce platform to increase accessibility for health-conscious consumers and businesses. Heny Farm's mission aligns with promoting environmental conservation, reducing post-harvest losses, and supporting local economies through job creation and sustainable practices. This initiative directly contributes to food security and climate resilience in Nigeria.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
At Heny Farm we significantly reduce GHG emissions through climate-smart and zero-emission farming practices. Traditional poultry farming methods release approximately 5 kilograms of CO₂ per kilogram of chicken produced, contributing to environmental degradation. In contrast, Heny Farm employs sustainable methods that eliminate such emissions entirely. Use of Renewable Energy: Our solar-powered cold storage and renewable energy infrastructure minimize reliance on fossil fuels, directly reducing carbon emissions. Sustainable Feed Production: We use black soldier fly larvae and hydroponic fodder as feed alternatives, which have a lower environmental footprint compared to conventional feed production. Organic Farming Practices: By avoiding chemical fertilizers and antibiotics, we prevent emissions associated with their production and application. Waste Recycling: Organic waste from poultry and fish farming is composted into natural fertilizers, reducing methane emissions from conventional waste disposal.
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
At heny Farm, we employ 70% women and youth and also have a scheme called Village savings loans association (VSLA) for the women in vulnerable communities where the get to save a percentage of their earnings at the end of the month, this enables them to carry out other small ventures to boost agricultural activities. we also provide improved seedlings of maize, rice and soybeans to these women to ensure the have inputs that are resilient to climate change.
