Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Since 2015, IYAN has shaped community climate adaption and activism through delivery on and trainings in four programs that include 1. The Green the Hill Campaign program- This is a tree planting program through which we work with rural communities to produce tree seedlings and plant them on community individuals farms. These includes fruit trees such as avocadoes, jack fruit that generate climate resilient food and also plant native trees that are helping stabilize their farms against landslides and floods. We have since planted 400,000 trees. 2. Supply of clean cooking technologies (Eco-stoves) to help rural communities reduce their wood and charcoal consumption by 50% to save pressure on forests while cooking in smoke free kitchens. We have trained 50 women and 60 youth who are producing eco-stoves and earn incomes. Since 2015, we have delivered eco-stoves to 31,000 homes and 47 school enabling a save on forest and household incomes. 3.Eco-investment empowerment programs. We realized that over dependence on forest was a result of poverty. To change this, we are empowering farmers in permaculture, aquaculture and apiary which are both conservation and income generating activities. We helped community establish 230 fish pond and 3100 bee hive for incomes.
