Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Each fruit tree planted, training delivered and kitchen garden established, it will contribute to the restoration of the environment and provide economic opportunities for the community. Kabacuzi sector is a hilly area with forests and mining activities, where vulnerable populations, including women and children, are at risk of stunting due to poor nutrition and living conditions. The soil in the area is depleted and sterilised, resulting in low agricultural productivity, erosion, and environmental degradation. Furthermore, there is a lack of access to nutritious fruits and vegetables, exacerbating the health and well-being of the community. Our project empowers women, who are traditionally underrepresented in the climate movement, by providing them with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and abilities in sustainable agriculture and food security. By focusing on women's participation, we aim to address gender disparities and promote gender equality in environmental initiatives. Through training sessions and hands-on experience in planting fruit trees and establishing kitchen gardens, women gain valuable skills that enable them to take an active role in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
